What Characteristics Should the Milling Cutter Material Have?

As the cutting tool of milling machines, the milling cutter works under high temperature and impact conditions. The material should therefore have:

1. High hardness — must be harder than the workpiece material, stable at high temperature (hot hardness).

2. Good wear resistance — maintains cutting edge sharpness over long machining runs.

3. Sufficient strength and toughness — resists bending and impact loads during interrupted cutting.

4. Good thermal conductivity and processability — dissipates cutting heat and allows precision grinding.
